The Plains flute is constructed in the same way that any normal Native Flute is. The difference being that the Plains Flute either has a spacer added, or a channel is carved into the block of wood, to form a thin flat airstream for the whistle hole. This allows for a greater control of the flute and for more expertise to be applied when using it. Being used correctly, the plains flute can emulate a beautiful melody of animal sounds and flute music. This flute plays some of the most amazing melodies, and brings a sense of calmness and happiness to all who hear. Using the power of breath to create meditation music and an atmosphere for relaxing.

The Dizi is a Chinese transverse flute. It can be used to create beautiful meditation music. It is sometimes known as the Di and the Hengdi. This flute has many varieties including the Qudi and the Bangdi. The names for this flute are very likely to have different spelling, depending on the transliteration used to convert Chinese names. Aside from the difference in spelling and names, Dizi seems to be the most common name used in the West.

The Dizi plays a big role in Chinese instruments. It is widely named in Chinese folk music, as well as Chinese opera and orchestra. Traditionally the Dizi has also been very popular with the Chinese common people, since it is simple to make and very easy to carry.

Most of these flutes are made from bamboo, this would explain why it is commonly called by simple names, such as Chinese Bamboo flute. However, ”bamboo” is more of a classification to the Chinese like ”woodwind” is in the West. The Dizi’s made in Northern China are made from purple or violet bamboo, while in Suzhou and Hangzhou it is made with white bamboo.

Bamboo is a very common material for the Dizi, but it is possible to find this flute made from various kinds of wood, even stone. Jade Dizi’s are popular among collectors, stunned by their beauty and professional players who are looking for an instrument to match the beauty of their music.

The Didgeridoo is played with continuously vibrating lips to produce the drone, while also using a special breathing technique known as circular breathing. This technique requires you to breathe in through your nose while simultaneously expelling stored air out of your mouth using both your tongue and cheeks. When using this technique, a skilled player can replenish the air in their lungs. With practice you can sustain a note for as long as you desire. There are existing recordings of modern players continuously playing for as long as 40 minutes or more. More modern techniques for playing this instrument are starting to show up in performances and lessons world wide.

The Unwritten History of The Native American Flute

Posted by on 10:16 am in Native American Flute | 0 comments

Since there was a lack of written language, the history of our Native American flute is not very clear. In pre-Columbian times, Native people preserved their history through stories that were passed down for generations. These stories told of how the their people came to be who they are, and how they made it to their settling place. Many tribes told these stories through songs.

There are various stories about how the flute was created, discovered or given to the Native people. A very common story tells of a woodpecker, a hollow branch and the wind. Many other stories revolve around a young brave wanting to attract the attention of a fair maiden.

The Hopi people have long organized a group called a flute society. The flute is used by this group for healing and ceremonial purposes. It can only be assumed that other tribes had similar uses for the flute. These traditions usually confine the use of the flute to men, something that has changed in these modern times.

The Native American flutes Unique Design

Posted by on 9:49 am in Native American Flute | 0 comments

The ‘two chambered duct flute’, now typically called the Native American flute, is a unique design specific to North America. A two-chambered duct flute has a slow rather then fast air chamber at the end head of the flute where the air is blown in. There is the channel or duct, which carries air from this chamber to the split edge where some of the air is conducted down through the sound chamber or bore of the flute. A dense and solid area splits these two chambers apart.

Loud noise and loud music can slow learning and raise your stress levels. Loud noise will even delay development of speaking skills in children. Lots of loud noise has even been proven to cause anger, insomnia and poor performance. More relaxing, slow and gentle music has been proven to produce a positive impact on learning abilities, memory and creativity.
