Discovering The Native American Flute
Music has always played a big part in the lives of Native American people. One of their most prominent instruments is the flute. The earliest found flute was in the fifteen hundreds.
It is believed to have first originated from the Southeast and Southwest of the United States. No artifacts have ever been found in the Southeast but plenty were found in the Southwest. A Native flute was typically made of bone and other perishable materials . The flute was widely used among many Native American tribes for different tribal and meditation ceremonies. It was also used in prayer rituals, healing rituals and even courting rituals.
Each one was made by the player out of bamboo, bone, or clay. They needed their own dimensions, which was usually determined by the length from their elbow to their fingertips. There are still many flutes made by the Natives today.
